The Earthy Report: Study Links Human Health To Area Trees

I recently came across this study (^) on Facebook, and I really enjoy it.  I have always believed that we as humans are connected to nature, and the environment. Its the reason why I get so upset when people don’t care or worry about the Earth, or our nation’s parks. As humans we get everything we need from the Earth; food, water, shelter, and even our air. We have been connected to it since we began here on Earth.

The study talks about the link between heart disease and respiratory disease when they lived in areas where trees have disappeared.
The researchers found an association between areas that had been affected by the emerald ash borer beetle — which kills trees, leaving areas treeless — and 15,000 more deaths from heart disease and 6,000 more deaths from respiratory disease.

So not only from urban sprawl of tree destruction, but natural tree destruction from an invasive species. I feel that this just helps with the position that we need to take care of our Earth, and all of its ecosystems. We still have a lot to learn about what other links there could be between us and the environment.

This finding adds to the growing evidence that the natural environment provides major public health benefits,” researchers wrote in the study.  Past studies on the health effects of nature lean more toward its effects on mental health.
