Today, the National Park Service turns 97 years old!
I would say that it was America’s Best Idea, but I think I may be a little biased!
The idea that people, communities and societies filled with our families, decided that they needed to set aside special areas for us, is quite amazing. It always surprises me when people I encounter today don’t understand the importance of being outside, and protecting these special places. Those places are reminders to us; about this Nation’s natural, cultural, and historical background.
The National Park Service currently protects and conserves about 401 National Park Units.
