Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center

_IGP4843Recently J and I went to exploring the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, and I am extremely excited to tell you how AWESOME it truly was! It’s not a big aquarium, like you may see in some zoos, but it is a local, native aquarium with creatures and plants from this area (and some non-native).
What’s even cooler than that??! All of the exhibits have water brought in from the local Owl’s Creek which is just outside.

We paid a little extra and saw and IMAX 3D movie, Under the Sea.
Seeing the ocean through a movie is pretty neat, the vibrant colors and shapes, but watching it in 3D was very neat.
Plus, as you can see from above, the glasses are very stylish!
“UNDER THE SEA 3D will offer a uniquely inspirational and entertaining way to explore the impact that global climate change has had on ocean wilderness. This new… adventure will transport moviegoers to some of the most exotic and isolated under sea locations on earth, … and allow them to experience face-to-face encounters with some of the most mysterious and stunning creatures of the sea.” (AND ITS NARRATED BY JIM CARREY!!!)

exhibits 2The Environmental Educator in me was ecstatic to see the different exhibits they had around almost every corner! Part of me wants to someday plan and create learning exhibits for a career, but the other part of me isn’t that creative!

Of course, I am being nerdy, and just talking about the building itself, and not even the cool animals and fish they had!! Some of my favorites were the sharks and the sea turtle exhibits. We happened to visit at the time they were cleaning the sea turtle exhibit, so it was a little cloudy, but the turtles didn’t mean to mind, and still posed for my camera!

To be honest, I can’t really say what was the absolute best thing about this place, because it was all amazing.
As usual, here are more photos, since I am not very well written!
ENJOY!
